consequences of race and racism in the United States, along with the potential causes and solutions
to address racism in the U.S.

Section I
In two pages, please address the following elements in your paper (Please do not turn in your
original submission with no revisions. This section should be revised and improved upon):
What is the problem?
a. Describe the history of the problem
b. What are some of the overall consequences of the problem (both negative and positive)?
c. What individuals, groups, organizations, and/or social institutions are involved?
d. What values, beliefs, and norms are associated with this problem?
Section II
In three-to-four pages, please address potential causes and solutions to the social problem under
investigation. In order to receive full credit, the following questions must be addressed:
Causes of the problem
a) What social factors are involved? At what level (state, neighborhood, school etc.)?
b) Who is making these claims (e.g. media, scholars, etc.)?
Solutions to the problem
a) What solutions have been proposed and by whom (individuals, groups, etc)?
b) What aspects of the problem are addressed? Which are not?
c) What solutions have been tried already? What solutions work? Evidence?
d) What additional problems do the solutions raise?
Section III
In one page summarize and take a position on the social problem you are investigating. More
specifically, please address the following questions:
What conclusion(s) can you draw about the problem? What are your own reactions now that you
have researched and critically analyzed the problem? What do you think would be best solution to
solve this problem? Support your position with evidence from prior research and/or other data.
