Write a short paper (2-3 pages; 750-100 words) in which you discuss two texts/materials from this week in the form of a synthesis essay. A synthesis paper asks you to, first, summarize and explain the main ideas of texts; then, to establish a relation between those texts based on your understanding of those main ideas.
In your synthesis, you have to work with The Combahee River Collective Statement and any other material from this week. That is, either Suave, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Fives The Message or Biggies Things Done Changed and The Combahee Statement. To accomplish this, you will summarize, quote, and explain the authors main argumentsthe gist or overarching idea; then make connections between those arguments; and from your own perspective, think of the importance or stakes of those connections in the discussion weve been having about inequality and oppression throughout the quarter.
For example, if you decide write about Combahee and Suave, you might want to start with the gist of their arguments; then, you point at one or two ways in which their arguments converse. Finally, develop those connections from your own critical perspective.

Do you notice any similarities or differences between the texts? Are the ideas weighted in one direction or the other, as they are in our readings? On what points do the authors agree?
