The purpose of this assignment is to construct a community analysis that will serve as a basis for the Library Service Proposal.
Through this assignment, you will collect data on a population of your choice and present an analysis of that population in a paper. When choosing your population, you should start by selecting a library and a surrounding community. Your selected population should be a part of this community.

Community Selected: Athens, Ga
Population Selected: Library patrons with disabilities
Your analysis will include two parts:
Description of the population and why you have selected this group. In your description, address basic information about your group (who they are, what makes them distinct, etc.), the groups information needs, and barriers and factors affecting their access to information. Also include the attributes of this community that you think will be the most challenging for your library to address. Explain why you think these attributes are challenging.
Your description should also include information about the library and the community as well. This could include information about that community (median income, population demographics, size, etc.) and information about the library within that community. Use these questions as a guide to what information might be most useful to include:
Physical Data- What does the community look like?
Where is this community located?
What are the physical characteristics of the community?
What is the atmosphere of this community?
Political Data What does the power base look like?
Who are the leaders in the community?
How stable is the leadership?
Cultural Who is in the community?
What are the basic demographics of my community?
What is the history of this community?
How is the community described in mass media, professional, and/or scholarly literature?
Which institutions, organizations, and volunteer groups are serving the community? What services are they providing and to whom?
What does the professional and scholarly literature say about the needs of this or similar communities?
Time-bound Are there cyclical or unique events or recent changes in the community?
Which services and materials does the library offer which may be of interest to this group? How are these services and materials insufficient to meet the needs of the selected population (including the potential absence of all services and materials). What you are looking for here is a gap in the services.
Format
Use APA 7 format for the entire paper, including title page, page numbers, and in-text and reference list.
Double-spaced, 12pt Times New Roman font, 1-inch margins
Be sure to cite any information you include from other sources (hint: you should be citing quite a bit for this assignment. Information about your community, the library, and your selected population should all be supported by external sources. You are allowed to use resources from the course).
