J.K. Rowling wrote articles and tweets about transgender people in June 2020 and there were many online responses. In July, she and other authors wrote a published letter:

They’re responding to a wide cultural trend, called “cancel culture” by some, seen in the controversy about the novel American Dirt, Margaret Atwood’s feminist platform, the resignation of The New York Times editorial page editor James Bennet, YA novels like Kosoko Jackson’s A Place for Wolves, Amlie Wen Zhao’s Blood Heir, Keira Drake’s “The Continent,” and Laurie Forests Y.A. fantasy dbut, The Black Witch. Your goal here is NOT TO SUMMARIZE and NOT TO AGREE/DISAGREE. Your goal is to discuss how logical or illogical the argument is. Your own feelings don’t matter, though you should try setting your own biases aside and approaching this from a place of neutrality. You should do research, searching up articles on censorship, banned books, political correctness, and some of the controversies mentioned.
Consider faulty premises, hidden premises, logical fallacies, historical context, types of evidence and sources used in this letter and in to support the two sides’ major premises in the larger debate,
Is the author arguing with fact or opinion? (Or something else, like belief or prejudice?) Are the premises factual and sound? Are there hidden premises and are they reasonable or clouding the issue? What do you know about the authors’ and critics’ backgrounds?
What sources did the author use for information and are they reasonable (did the author try to account for the flaws in these types of information by, say, researching among a large enough sample? Or basing an argument on too few personal examples?)
Write a research paper 3+ pages in MLA format with a works cited page (additional beyond the three pages) and proper sources proving a clear thesis (that the cancel culture letter is basically logical and justified or not or partially) BASED ON THE ARGUMENTS THE TWO SIDES ARE MAKING.
