US Foreign Policy

1. In 1966, J. William Fulbright (The Fatal Arrogance of Power) warned Americans against adopting an exaggerated sense of power and an imaginary sense of mission (329). In urging Americans to maintain the mantle of world leadership after the Cold Wars end, is Robert Kagan (Superpowers Dont Get to Retire) guilty of doing exactly what Fulbright warned against?

2. Youre a foreign policy realist. Tell Charles Krauthammer why his recommendations in The Unipolar Moment are (totally, mostly, or partly) wrong.

word reflection

School psychologists play a critical role in evaluation and determination of eligibility for special education services. They often consult with teachers and families about characteristics of disabilities and types of services and supports available in the school system and community. As leaders, school administrators must have a thorough understanding of IDEA and the IEP process. They are responsible for ensuring all teachers have working knowledge regarding these topics, so IEPs can be properly implemented to meet the needs of students with disabilities.

Allocate at least 3 hours in the field to support this field experience.

Because this course does not require you to have a fingerprint clearance card, if you are not a current teacher your field experience must be completed before or after school, or during another designated time when students are not present.

In person or via phone, interview a school psychologist and a school administrator from any K-12 setting. Take notes, as these will be submitted as part of the assignment deliverable.

In the interview, address the following:

Explain your role as a member of the special education team.
Discuss the specific responsibilities you have in meeting the needs of individuals with disabilities.
Describe your role in the IEP process.
Explain when teachers should consult with you regarding the special education needs of their students.
Describe the role of the school in early intervention. Include discussion about how you communicate that to the family and how you support the staff.
Describe your experiences in working with students with disabilities by talking about the various disabilities you have encountered. Include discussion of the characteristics, causes, and prevalence of the types of disabilities you typically see in practice.
Considering the students with whom you have worked and the types of disabilities you typically see, describe the educational implications for students who exhibit characteristics of these disabilities. Explain how you have worked with these students and what you have encouraged teachers to focus on when interacting with and teaching students with these types of disabilities.
Identify professional development opportunities related to special education that you believe would benefit staff in the school and/or district.
Describe what you do for professional development in terms of implementing interventions before starting the special education process at your site.
Formulate and ask three additional questions of your choice. Include these in your interview notes.
In a 750-1,000 word reflection, identify the school settings for the professionals you interviewed and discuss the following:

Describe what you learned about the typical types of disabilities you might expect to see as part of your professional practice. Include discussion of how interacting with the school psychologist could be beneficial in increasing your personal knowledge of the characteristics, causes, and educational implications of these disabilities for students in your classroom.
Describe the perceived differences in roles between the school psychologist and the administrator. Discuss how knowledge of these roles will help you facilitate the collaborative process before referral to special education and throughout the IEP process. Explain how you will use support from the school psychologist and administration once the IEP is written and services have begun.
Discuss how you perceive your role as a teacher in professional development. Explain how you can contribute to and collaborate with an administrator or school psychologist to support other staff and faculty in understanding their roles in the special education process.
Considering what you learned from these two interviews as well as those completed in Field Experience A, describe how you will use the experiences shared by the teachers, psychologist, and administrator to inform your personal professional practice.

I will upload my interview notes, I also need to come up with 3 extra questions, if you can help me with this I would appreciate it. The only thing I need done is the essay word reflection.

uploaded is the rubric and the interview as well.

How have these authors challenged the notion of U.S. exceptionalism?

From its inception, the United States has been characterized as an unmatched city upon a hill. Such a promise-filled characterization, manifest in claims of U.S. exceptionalism, pivots on a reading of the country as a utopic place of possibility, a space of equality, and a site of unparalleled liberty. However, over the course of the semester, we have considered works by U.S. writers that destabilize such optimistic representations. How have these authors challenged the notion of U.S. exceptionalism? How does their work highlight the disconnect between what the United States of America should be and what the United States is? Select ONE text (short story, memoir, play, or novel) as the basis for your response. Be sure to include at least THREE direct quotes from that text in your answer.

Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.

My life has been going really well and smoothly before the covid-19 pandemic came. Every weekday, I would go to school and after school, I would go out and practice golf. On weekends, I would either go to golf tournaments or go outside with my family and friends. This would be my routine over and over again. During that time, I had no idea of what my future would be like and was just living my life. But one day, suddenly, the government announced that there would be lockdowns and schools would be closed without any exact date of opening again. This situation changed the routine of my life and changed the way I think about life. It also helped me realize my goals for the future.

Golf has been part of the routine in my daily life and before the pandemic, I couldnt imagine how my life would be like if I had to stop playing golf. I started playing golf at the age of 9 and decided to play competitive golf at 12. When I first start to play, I didnt know the reason why my parents wanted me to play. But after starting to play competitive golf, I had a dream that I wanted to become a professional golfer and win lots of tournaments. Every day after school, I would go and practice golf for about two to three hours.

After grade 7, my parents decided to move me to a new school because my school doesnt have a golf team. They moved me because they saw that my goals became clearer so they wanted me to improve faster as the school has golf coaches and is near the golf course.

The first day I came into this school, I felt that this school would be the school that would help me achieve my goals. The school has a golf team and has a private chipping and putting greens in front of the school. The environment in this school was also very good. The coaches would always be encouraging me to be improving on my golf game while my friends in the team would always help me out since I am new to the school. Everything went really well until three years later, the pandemic came.

During the pandemic, I was staying at home for about three months and did not have a chance to practice golf since all courses were closed. Tournaments were also canceled for until further notice. At first, I felt really bad and really wanted to go out and practice. But after a few weeks, I became used to the new life. Everyday, I would have to wake up for online classes and then after school I would be staying at home instead of going to practice. After the pandemic, I went back for golf tournaments and did not do as well as before the pandemic. I felt really stressed out and did not have the passion anymore to play tournaments. I still had to play in tournaments because I would need it to help me get into colleges.

One day, I had a chance to talk to a person who made me realize what I wanted for my future. She told me that if I didnt really want to play that much golf I should go to NCAA division 3. In that division, there would be many colleges that are good academically and golf in that division wouldnt be tough. This helped me realize that this would be a good choice for me as I would have a chance to get into a good school while also getting to play golf at the same time. After that talk, I decided to go and tells my parents about it and they agreed with the idea. I would also have to come back and get serious about my studies to achieve this goal.

From that day onwards, I became less serious about my golf game and more serious about my studies. I also still had to go to golf tournaments so that I can make a portfolio for golf. Although the pandemic may be a horrible situation for me, it helped me realize the goals for my future and a better understanding of myself.
