Write a formal argumentative letter aimed at convincing the deciding body (e.g. the voting members, the coach, the conductor, the director, etc.)

Imagine you are being considered for membership in a university group (fictional or real) with limited membership, e.g. a sports team, a sorority or fraternity, an honors society, a musical ensemble, etc. Write a formal argumentative letter aimed at convincing the deciding body (e.g. the voting members, the coach, the conductor, the director, etc.) that you are the ideal candidate for membership in this group. Your writing assignment must be 500-600 words in length and contain each of the following required components. Highlight (with color) each required component. Then provide identification information (details provided in parentheses behind each required component below) using footnotes.

Required Components:

1. Simple non-inferential statement (footnote: identify the specific type of simple non-inferential statement offered, e.g. opinion, report, warning)

2. Expository Passage or Illustration (footnote: identify which of these two options you have offered, e.g. expository passage, illustration)

3. Explanation (footnote: identify the passage as an explanation and identify/provide the explanandum)

4. Deductive Argument (footnote: identify/provide the conclusion, identify the argument as deductive, and identify the specific type of deductive inference offered, e.g. argument from definition, hypothetical syllogism)

5. Inductive Argument (footnote: identify/provide the conclusion, identify the argument as inductive, and identify the specific type of inductive inference offered, e.g. generalization, argument from analogy)

Note 1: Footnote markers must be placed AFTER the highlighted passage. The content of your footnotes should be included in your word count. Except in cases where you are asked to provide the conclusion or explanandum, you should not copy the content of your required components in the footnotes. Provide only the IDs and any specifically required statements (conclusion or explanandum) in your footnotes. The highlighting will tell me what you intend to be included in the required component.

Note 2: Your two arguments should avoid any obvious weakness (inductive) or invalidity (deductive). You should avoid obvious falsehoods in your piece. While you may embellish your character traits and accomplishments somewhat, make sure that you piece is realistic.

Write paper discussing the pros of Starlink.

Write paper discussing the pros of Starlink. Then, transition to the cons and why this specific internet requires further development to be widely used commercially. If the military, specifically the Navy, were to use this, discuss shortfalls (the Navy operates out in the sea, not fixed to a specific location, subject to weather, etc.). Basically, Starlink is a good endeavor that requires maturation to reach full operational capability. Some references are attached but may not be all encompassing. Please feel free to search for articles, specifically the shortfalls of Starlink, to help the argument.

Explain how anonymity and physical distance from one’s victims contribute to criminal and deviant behavior on the internet?

The idea that one can remain relatively ‘anonymous’ on the internet if they so choose, for many, is one of the sacred concepts of the online world. However, regarding crime and deviance, such anonymity raises certain concerns. Explain how anonymity and physical distance from one’s victims contribute to criminal and deviant behavior on the internet? Have you ever had someone treat you in a manner online in which you do not think they would have in person? If so, discuss. Which theory of criminal and/or deviant behavior do you feel best explains crime and deviance on the internet?

Identify the points of difference in your analyses and explain how your application of the relevant law (mans or Gods) to the facts of this situation led you to a different conclusion.

This is a discussion board reply. The thread you’re responding to is in the files under Otis Discussion.
My thread is under Business Formation and Employment (2) to show you my perspective for the assignment when responding to the Otis Discussion.

In preparing your replies, consider only the personnel issues in question 3 of the initial thread. Reply to the threads of 2 classmates who reached a different conclusion than you did regarding the involvement of Marvin, Kelsey, and Carlos. Identify the points of difference in your analyses and explain how your application of the relevant law (mans or Gods) to the facts of this situation led you to a different conclusion.
Then, assume that Shania opened her coffeehouse and became so successful that she now has 20 employees and needs to promote 1 of them to be the night shift supervisor. The employee base is quite diverse and Shania believes she should promote a racial or ethnic minority employee to demonstrate how inclusive her business has become. Explore the legal, Biblical, and ethical issues if Shania makes her promotion decision entirely on that basis. What are her options?

Each reply must be supported by 3 scholarly sources other than the textbook/course materials. Each source must be properly cited in current APA format. Reply will include at least 1 Scripture verse integrated in the same manner.

Are there commonalities in the outlooks, concerns, and/or ideologies of Gourevitch, Brown, Smith, and Pontecorvo?

Essay Prompt:
One of the purposes of the GE core is to introduce students of different majors to the academic disciplines, or, as one of my colleagues often says about the history GE, “to teach students to think like a historian.” At the most basic level, thinking like a historian requires that we treat artifacts like film and literature as windows onto the ages in which they were produced, rather than as objects of transcendental aesthetic beauty (which is the realm of literary analysis and criticism) or as moral and political signposts (which is the realm of philosophy, religion, and politics). Your job is to use We Wish to Inform You, Manual for Survival, White Teeth, and the film “The Battle of Algiers” to think like a historian. What do these artifacts tell us about human preoccupations and concerns during the latter part of the twentieth and the early twenty-first centuries? Are there commonalities in the outlooks, concerns, and/or ideologies of Gourevitch, Brown, Smith, and Pontecorvo?

Please carefully review the requirements for essays in the syllabus for information on appropriate length, format, style, and citation style. Failure use proper Chicago-style footnotes constitutes a failure to complete the assignment as directed.

Essay guidelines:
Each essay should be 5 pages in length (roughly 1,500 words), double-spaced, and typed. You are welcome to discuss the prompts with other students, but if you do so please indicate their names on the cover of your essay. By turning in an essay, you acknowledge that you are familiar with SSU’s policy on cheating and plagiarism. Because I use take-home essays in lieu of in-class midterm and final exams, I will not review drafts beforehand. If you are worried about the quality of your writing, I encourage you to take advantage of the resources that the Writing Center offers.

I expect you to write at a level appropriate for juniors and seniors in college. Consequently, your essay should be free of elementary grammatical errors. I also expect you to conform to conventional essay format. Your essays must have an introduction that includes some sort of hook for the reader, a clearly stated argument, and a description of the structure of the paper (or how you will illustrate the argument). Likewise, you must write transitions between the different components of your essay, and end with a conclusion that restates the argument. I encourage you to consult my style guide (available on my website), where I have listed the most common grammatical and stylistic snafus that I encounter in student writing at SSU.

You must use Chicago-style footnotes when quoting or paraphrasing the readings. In addition, please be sure to use ibid. and shortened citations where appropriate, as demonstrated here:

1Olaudah Equiano, The Interesting Narrative and Other Writings (New York, 1995), 22-23.

2ibid., 45.

3Jean-Jacques Rousseau, The Social Contract (New York, 1968), 56.

4Equiano, Interesting Narrative, 78.

Your life will be considerably easier and your blood pressure lower if you use the footnote function in your word processing program.

No block quotes, please.

Finally, please identify yourself only on the cover page of your essay. The cover page should include your name, the names of anyone with whom you discussed the question, and the title of your essay. All essays must be submitted via Canvas.
