1. Write a comparative analysis (1000-1200 words) of the following poems or extracts by Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson, making particular reference to how their poetic techniques influence your conceptual and emotional understanding of the poem:

(a)
From Walt Whitman, As I Ebbd with the Ocean of Life
1
As I ebbd with the ocean of life,
As I wended the shores I know,
As I walkd where the ripples continually wash you Paumanok,
Where they rustle up hoarse and sibilant,
Where the fierce old mother endlessly cries for her castaways,
I musing late in the autumn day, gazing off southward,
Held by this electric self out of the pride of which I utter poems,
Was seizd by the spirit that trails in the lines underfoot,
The rim, the sediment that stands for all the water and all the land of the globe.

Fascinated, my eyes reverting from the south, dropt, to follow those slender windrows,
Chaff, straw, splinters of wood, weeds, and the sea-gluten,
Scum, scales from shining rocks, leaves of salt-lettuce, left by the tide,
Miles walking, the sound of breaking waves the other side of me,
Paumanok there and then as I thought the old thought of likenesses,
These you presented to me you fish-shaped island,
As I wended the shores I know,
As I walkd with that electric self seeking types.

(b)

Emily Dickinson, I Started Early Took My Dog

I started Early Took my Dog
And visited the Sea
The Mermaids in the Basement
Came out to look at me

And Frigates in the Upper Floor
Extended Hempen Hands
Presuming Me to be a Mouse
Aground opon the Sands

But no Man moved Me till the Tide
Went past my simple Shoe
And past my Apron and my Belt
And past my Boddice too

And made as He would eat me up
As wholly as a Dew
Opon a Dandelion’s Sleeve
And then I started too

And He He followed close behind
I felt His Silver Heel
Opon my Ancle Then My Shoes
Would overflow with Pearl

Until We met the Solid Town
No One He seemed to know
And bowing with a Mighty look
At me The Sea withdrew

Discrimination

Not all discrimination is prohibited by law. For example, employers routinely discriminate between potential employees based upon education or experience. Other types of discrimination are more subtle, but still legal. For example, some employers discriminate between potential employees based upon personal characteristics such as weight or attractiveness. Should employers be permitted to discriminate based upon attractiveness? Take a side and argue that an employer should or should not be permitted by law to discriminate against persons who are not attractive.

Safe Drugs

Please do not use words another student will not understand. It must be understandable to other students. if any questions please email me. Remember the analysis must include the pages I provided so that you may see what chapters explained to us. I would like the writer to use the health belief model or the transtheoretical model as the behavior model to analyze the problem. Make sure the Infographic is accurate and understandable with supported data in the analysis. (I have provided both) i have put the chap 13, 24, 25 in PowerPoint so they are available and not alot of copying , please look and read them and let me know if they came thru understandable

Power of 3 Project (P3P)
THERE ARE 2 PARTS TO THIS PROJECT; THEY ARE LISTED UNDER THE “What to turn in?” SECTION BELOW.
Topics
Safe Drugs (Chapter 24)
Students will study the problem:
1. Read the chapter in the textbook related to their chosen problem/topic. Each topic/public health problem corresponds with a chapter in the textbook. So….. break out that textbook, and read it 🙂
2. Research the problem from credible sources of information beyond the textbook.
3. Analyze the problem through one of the Health Behavior Models/Theories presented in class.
4. Write an analysis that provides an overview of the problem, data about the problem, and an analysis of how the problem can be addressed through a health behavior model. (use health belief or transtheoretical model)
5. Create an original INFOGRAPHIC displaying/visualizing the most important aspects of the problem, the data, and a conclusion/call to action.
What is an Infographic?
Infographic is a melding of the two words information and graphic.
In essence it is a form of visual communication meant to capture attention and enhance comprehension.
An infographic is a collection of imagery, charts, and minimal text that gives an easy-to-understand overview of a topic.
Infographics use striking, engaging visuals to communicate information quickly and clearly.
Infographics provide a quick overview of a topic, explain a complex process, display research findings or data, and raise awareness about an issue or cause.
Infographics are great when you need to give someone a really quick rundown on something that can be hard to explain (like public health problems).
There are a number of infographic tools or programs available such as Piktochart, Visme, Canva, and Venngage. These programs allow you to easily use a template and then customize it with your own problem, data, layout, and style.
How to make an infographic:
1. First, ask yourself what is the burning problem associated with your topic? And then what are 2-3 supporting/probing questions that you need to ask and find the answers to in order to solve the problem??
2. Collect the data. Do your research. Read the Chapter in your textbook, consult outside sources of information, google the topic, visit data repositories, and visit .gov and .org websites related to your topic.
3. Sort through all the data and decide which data are important, and how to display/visualize that data.
4. Layout information of infographic to create a natural flow of information that includes a beginning, middle, and end (a call to action).
5. Add some style to your infographic. Choose font, colors, graphics that communicate the problem, catch the readers attention, and call them to take action.
The following youtube video provides an overview of these five steps of making an infographic using Venngage:
How to Make an Infographic in 5 Steps (INFOGRAPHIC DESIGN GUIDE; TIPS)

The following youtube video provides an overview of making an infographic using Canva:

What to turn in?
Part 1 – A written analysis of the problem that provides:

o An overview of the problem, including the burning question that you sought to answer, as well as 3-4 supporting/probing questions that you asked and found the answers to through your research.
o Data about the problem, including references of your sources of data.
o Analysis of how the problem could be addressed through the lens of one of the health behavior models presented back in our Chapter 13 & 14 materials.
o Your call to action, and how you will try to include this in your infographic.
Your written analysis will be submitted in the Text Box of your Discussion post. You should type your analysis is a word processing program (so you can spell and grammar check, and save a copy for your own records), and then cut-and-paste the text of your analysis into the text box of your Discussion post.
Part 2 – An original Infographic
You will provide a link to your infographic.
Example infographics:

o
Infographic-Examples-1.png
Infographic-Examples-2.png
Infographic-Examples-3.png
Infographic-Examples-4.jpg
Infographic-Examples-5.gif (This is GREAT example, with a very clear CALL TO ACTION) use this one , it covers everything
