Core Elements of Strategic Planning

Core Elements of Strategic Planning

There are a set of core elements that human services administrators should use to develop and implement strategic plans. These core elements are the fundamentals, the strategic issues, and the technicals. The fundamentals include the core values, mission, and vision, which represent the organizational identification(ID). The strategic issues include a SWOT analysis tool, which highlights strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Strategic issues also include a gap analysis, an environmental scan, and stakeholder surveys. The technicals element includes items such as strategic goals, strategies, leading indicators of success, performance targets, and action plans for each year of the strategic plan. The technicals element is the executable part of the strategic plan.

The core elements of the strategic planning process are interrelated and complex. For this Discussion, you will review the core elements graphic in the Learning Resources this week. This visual presentation will provide you with examples of how core elements work together in the strategic planning process.

With these thoughts in mind:

Write a one and half page well organized  explanation of the importance of the relationship among core elements. Then explain the relationship between at least two core elements of the strategic planning process based on the core elements graphic. Provide examples from the core elements graphic to illustrate your points.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources.

Understanding Power and Effect Size

Understanding Power and Effect Size

As a scholar practitioner, you will use the results of quantitative research to make decisions about the types of techniques, theories, and interventions you employ in your counseling practice. Dissecting a quantitative research study is a complex process and requires an understanding of design and data analysis. One particular skill that practicing counselors should have is the ability to determine the practical significance of a research study. In other words, counselors should be able to determine how the results of a study apply to the real world.

In this Discussion you consider power and effect size: two essential elements for determining practical significance. You also begin to develop the skills for determining the degree to which the results of quantitative research apply to your world of practice.

With these thoughts in mind:

Write a well organized analysis of the implications of power and effect size on the interpretation and application of the research findings in one of the scenarios provided in the attached document. Be specific and provide examples to illustrate your points.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources.

Health care related

Summative analysis/final project. The scope of the final project may be more limited in size to a typical homework assignment involving a modeling method and solution implemented in Excel. The most important factor is that you find a meaningful case related to health care that is amendable to some of the methods we’ve seen in the course (decision analysis, forecasting, inventory control, queuing, linear programming, etc.).  How many of the methods should be involved?  Preferably two: one that estimates data in some way (like forecasting, or regression or Bayesian probability methods), and one that actually computes an answer (makes a decision or optimizes the decision variable, for example, linear programming, or one of the decision methods from chapter 3).  But the size of the problem may be small in terms of the specific focus.
