Part A

Compare and contrast three of the most common types of clinical trial study designs: cohort, cross-sectional and case-control.

Part B

A group of doctors want to conduct a clinical trial to study the effects of alcohol use on bladder cancer. Using one of the three study designs from part A, detail how the doctors could design a study to investigate this topic (i.e., the effects of alcohol use on bladder cancer). Be creative and include as much detail about the study design (e.g., cohort, cross-sectional or case-control) as possible. Based on the type of research design you chose to write about, what conclusions can be made from the findings of the study?

Part C

Using the study you designed in part B of this assignment, provide a detailed explanation of the steps the doctors must follow to ensure good ethical conduct. Identify and define three ethical principles in the Belmont Report. What must the doctors do to ensure each of the three ethical principles in the Belmont report are followed?

Part D

Calculate the standard deviation for this set of numbers: 4, 56, 20, 11, 92, 36
