Write a comparison-and-contrast essay evaluating the similarities
and differences between the two authors portrayals of the news stories. Be certain that
your essay contains a thesis that explains your findings and makes some point about how
and why the two sources compare (and/or contrast). Do not simply list the qualities
of each portrayal; discuss why the portrayals are alike or different. Additionally, youll
be citing two news sources, so you will need a References page and In-Text citation.
Guidelines for the News Event: The event must satisfy the following guidelines:
1. The event must have some degree of controversy, whether politically, morally, etc.
2. No murders or killings that function as isolated incidents (husband murders wife).
3. No serial killers, conspiracies, or paranormal events.
4. No events older than 30 years.
5. No AP Wire, CNN Wire, Encyclopedias, Fact Sheets, etc.
Format: This assignment should be formatted as per the description for out-of-class
assignments in your syllabus: 12-point Times New Roman font, double-spaced, 1-inch page
margins. The essay must be titled Comparison and Contrast Essay. The essay should have a
heading on the left-hand side at the top, with your name, the date, the class, and which Essay this
is. This paper must be limited to 3rd person point of view. Length: 750-1250 words (not
including title or header). Additionally, this assignment must include a References page which
properly cites all of the sources referenced within the essay and must contain only 2 sources.
