Assignment Content

Read the following scenario:

F.N. is a 57-year-old homemaker, happily married with grown children and two new grandchildren. F.N. made an appointment with her optometrist to explore progressive left eye visual loss over a 9-month period. Her eye examination findings were essentially normal, and the optometrist referred her to a neurologist. A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan revealed a 2.5-cm primary brain mass, and she is now scheduled for a supratentorial craniotomy. Her past medical history is significant only for hypertension, for which she takes long-acting metoprolol (Toprol XL) 100 mg/day. Her past surgical history includes tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy as a child, cholecystectomy at age 35, and a total hysterectomy at age 42.

Think through the following related to F.N.’s condition:

Etiology and pathophysiology
Risk factors
Signs and symptoms

Potential complications
