How / why did the lived religion approach emerge within Sociology? How does it relate to other social scientific approaches to the study of religion e.g. macro sociological approaches? What gaps in the existing understandings of religion does the lived religion approach seek to address? How has this scholarship engaged with struggles over definitions of legitimate / authentic religion within Sociology?
Discuss interviewing and at least one other method discussed during the module (it would be wise to focus on methods you plan to use in your case study), which will likely include: ethnography, material culture (i.e. researching objects and spaces), researching media, archival / document analysis. What do these methods involve? What skills do they require from the researcher? What can we learn about religion from them? What are their limitations?
