Term Paper Assignment (20%)The goal of this paper is to gain a better understanding of psychological concepts by applyingthem to your everyday life and by engaging in experiential exercises. There are two sections tothis assignment (Section 1 and Section 2). For Section 1, you will choose 2 psychologicalconcepts that are covered in this course and for Section 2 you will engage in 2 experientialexercises. Carefully read the detailed instructions for each section below. Choose 2 psychological concepts from 2 of the following chapters: Ch. 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, or 12(each concept must come from 2 different chapters). If you choose Option 2 in Section 2, youcannot choose a psychological concept from Ch. 10.INSTRUCTIONS:For each concept you need to do 2 things:1. Define and explain the concept (What is it? How does it work? When does it work? Whatdo we know about it? etc).2. Explain how the concept applies to your life (past, present, or future). I expect you toexplain things IN DETAIL. Make it really clear to the reader how this example reflects theconcept.Use class notes and the textbook to learn about the concepts. When you define the concept,you need to cite the book (make reference to). Example: According to Wood, Wood, Boyd, Wood, and Desmarais (2019), operantconditioning is when..NO direct quotes allowed. You MUST describe the concept in your own words (note: rearranging the words of a sentence from your text is NOT putting it in your own words).Some examples of psychological concepts covered in class (note: this list is not exhaustive) A specific part of vision (examples of concepts are: myopia, hyperopia) A specific type of learning (examples of concepts are: classical conditioning, positivereinforcement, negative reinforcement, punishment, observational learning) Specific part of memory (e.g., encoding, short-term memory, episodic memory, semanticmemory, procedural memory) Forgetting (e.g., interference or decay) Central nervous system (e.g., the amygdala, the hippocampus) Endocrine system (e.g., the pituitary gland, pineal gland, thyroid gland) Placebo effect Social Psychology concepts (e.g., conformity, bystander effect) Fight-or-flight responseIn selecting your concept, choose something specific. For example, long-term memory is toobroad. You would need to narrow it down. Episodic memory is better because it is morespecific.If youre unsure as to whether a particular concept is appropriate, please come talk to me.Depending on what you choose, you might need to do extra research. For example, if you wantto discuss how someone you know suffered a brain injury to a part of the brain that we did notfocus on in class, you will need to include detail about the location of the injury (the exact part ofthe brain) and what functions that particular part is responsible for, as well as any other relevantinformation. To do this, you will likely need to do extra research. You MUST get my approvalFIRST before choosing a topic not covered in classSection 1 paper-formatting instructions: Typed (double-space) using Times New Roman font size 12.
