The aims of this assignment are to (a) consolidate your understanding of correlation and
multiple regression, including moderated multiple regression, and (b) give you practice in
writing up the results of such analyses in the appropriate APA 7th format (i.e., 7th edition of
the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association). Using the Introduction
below and the SPSS data file that is provided online (a2 data PSYC3010 2021.sav), your task
is to conduct the relevant analyses and complete the research report by writing the Method,
Results and Discussion sections. You need to:
(1) Describe in sufficient detail the participants, measures and procedure. Make sure
you describe how the key constructs were measured, and report scale reliabilities where this
information is available. N.B. the use of subheadings for the different constructs within the
Measures section may be helpful.

(2) Report and interpret the results. Report and interpret the results of the preliminary
analyses. Report and interpret the statistical tests that correspond to each prediction and
append the SPSS syntax used to test the hypotheses. Describe the procedure of analyses
where appropriate.
If the predicted interaction (Hypothesis 3) is significant, you will need to: (a) follow it up
using simple slopes analysis, (b) graph the interaction, and (c) report tests of the simple
slopes. Download the Excel Macro file created by Prof. Louis for plotting simple slopes
(available in the Assignment 2 folder on Blackboard; also see tutorial notes). You may use
the Excel Macro file to plot the simple slopes. You may also use hand calculations, but you
must still create a graph (with error bars) in Excel for inclusion in the text. N.B. Instructions
for how to add error bars to an Excel graph are found in your Format Expectations workbook
on the course Blackboard website.

(3) Discuss the results. Without going beyond the literature reported in the Introduction,
discuss the findings of the study. You should restate the overall purpose of the study;
summarise the results, including a clear statement of directionality where applicable; note the
outcome for each hypothesis; and relate results to the relevant literature. You should address
the theoretical and practical/ social implications. You should also discuss a key study strength
and limitation,
