Describe the condition as though you were speaking to a peer in the health care field.

InstructionsYou will have three discussions in this course. The goal of each discussion is to give you a chance to interact with your fellow students and discuss the material beyond the textbook and confined class. You will have three topics to choose from for each discussion. You will pick the topic that is most intriguing to you and you will spend time answering that prompt. Remember that all initial posts (answers to the prompt) must include a reference. You will lose points if you forget this so make sure to cite your sources. Once you have made your initial post you will then go into the two other prompts to reply to other students. You are responsible for making at least one reply in each of the other two prompts. The intent is that are forced to have exposure to all of the prompts but so that you only have to do research on one. Discussion Prompts:Topic 1: Electrolyte and Acid/Base ImbalancesMedications, chronic diseases, and trauma (for example, burns or fractures) may cause the concentration of certain electrolytes or pH in the body to become too high or too low. Describe one of the major electrolyte imbalances such as hypernatremia, hyponatremia, hyperkalemia, hyopkalemia, or any other electrolyte imbalance, or any type of acidosis or alkalosis. Describe the condition as though you were speaking to a peer in the health care field. What should be done to correct the imbalance? How are the kidneys related to this imbalance or aiding in the rebalancing of this issue? Include references. Topic 2: Immune and Lymph ResearchResearch the major ways the immune system is compromised daily (excessive stress or sugar, lack of sleep or water etc.) and discuss how this affects overall health. Consider the types of cells in the immune system and their function. How can altering these cells lead to disease? Include citation. Topic 3: Reproductive ResearchWhat recent research can you share with us about the reproductive system? Topics can include infertility, the effects of obesity on reproductive success, the effects of smoking on reproductive success etc. Find an article published in a peer-reviewed journal within the last six months related to any of these topics and provide a summary in your own words that a lay person could understand. As always, provide appropriate citations.
