Determine Your Own Ethics

Instructions For each of these personal ethical dilemmas, review all possible solutions, choose the solution that you are most comfortable with, and then explain your reasoning. 1. You and your best friend are getting ready for the prom. Your friend is so excited that she is going to a dance with her boyfriend rather than a friend. Her excitement is bubbling over to you. However, yesterday, on your way to gym class, you saw her boyfriend with another girl with their faces held close as if they just finished a kiss. What do you do? 2. You carpool to work with three other people. You all take turns driving your car for a day. One day, the car of another carpooler breaks down approximately 10 miles from work. You discuss possible solutions with your driving mates. You all agree that you need to do something quick to avoid being late for work. You run in races, including marathons.3. You offer to run to the gas station that is about six miles away. After running for about a mile, your co-worker pulls over and asks you if you would like a ride to work. You ask him to help out your other carpoolers. He says that he cannot do that because he has already been late three days that week and worried about being disciplined. What do you do? 4. Your friend has been out of work for over a year now. One Sunday, you see him steal some money from the weekly collection at church. You know that he has been struggling with paying the rent and utility bills and is worried about the utilities being turned off or his family being evicted from their apartment. What do you do?You are a general surgeon. One day on your way home from work you notice a car accident and you pull over to see if you can help. One victim is your brother-in-law, he is severely injured, and he has a large laceration on his leg that needs your immediate attention. You quickly go to check for other passengers. You find a woman much younger than your brother-in-law who is wearing a necklace just like the one that your brother-in-law gave to your sister on their anniversary. You quickly jump to the conclusion that your brother-in-law is having an affair with the woman passenger. The woman is having trouble breathing, you think that a tracheotomy will allow her to breathe more easily and ensure that she gets sufficient oxygen to her brain. What do you do?
