Coursework Task
John has recently been recruited as a trainee manager for Howden Joinery Group plc, a multinational parent company
for Howdens Joinery business. The company sells kitchen (including worktops, sinks, appliances, flooring, taps and
lighting), joinery, hardware, tools and bathroom cabinetry; with over seven hundred depots nationwide, twenty one in
France, and two in Belgium.
John has been recruited to work at the headquarters of Howden located at the Portman Square, London. He has been
overwhelmed by the different types of organisations and companies that operate within the City of London and has
numerous queries relating to managing people and systems within his new position within the Howden plc. After a week
of induction, John has been tasked to write a report that will help inform future trainee managers in understanding the
listed aspects below. John has asked you to help in this.
Required:
Develop and produce a well-researched and referenced report that addresses the following areas:
a) Brief explanation of the various types of organisations and where Howden plc fits.
b) The types and aspects of organisational structure and where Howden plc fits.
c) An outline of the types of stakeholders in business organisations and identification of external stakeholders
applicable to Howden plc, stating their varying needs as well.
Your individual report should have 1,500 words maximum (there is a +/-10% allowance on this word count). The word
count limit excludes references at the end and also appendices.
You should demonstrate evidence of critical thinking
and also cite and reference your sources using the university referencing style: APA.
Your report (word count 1,500) should include and will be assessed based on the following structure in conjunction with
the marking rubric:
(i) Contents page and Executive summary 5%
(ii) Introduction 5%
(iii) Issues discussed and focus on the questions in parts (a), (b), and (c) above15%
