Final Paper Assignment:
Your final paper will serve as an opportunity for you to reflect on the themes from the entire course. You are to pick at least two themes that we discussed throughout the course and develop an argument for why and how they relate to one another in medical ethics/the context of the health care profession. You can pick your themes from the ones listed under each Module heading (i.e. uncertainty in medical decision-making; suffering; the role and development of virtue; the relationship between theory/thought and practise/action; truth-telling, etc.) You must make reference to at least two of the assigned readings throughout the course (this can include the films or podcasts), to illustrate the point you are trying to make. You can also draw from your own experiences.
The purpose of this paper is for you to demonstrate what you learned in this class, to make connections between the lectures, readings, and themes from the different modules, and to critically reflect on ethical aspects of healthcare and your stance on it. Did you come into this course with a question that you feel better equipped to address? Did you have a previous idea or notion that you are re-considering, or have a new perspective on? What did you make of the readings and themeswhy are they important for a nurse or healthcare professional? Using these themes, make an argument or claim and defend it in your paper, using plenty of examples from the readings and lectures, to show me what you have learned.
