Discourses of White Supremacy and Settler Colonialism: Curricular & Co-Curricular Interventions in Higher Education

*** INSTRUCTOR’S ORIGINAL INSTRUCTIONS ***

The final paper (approx 15 double-spaced pages) will provide an opportunity to think further, analyze, and integrate some ideas about a particular issue/topic/theoretical struggle along with some of the scholarship read for the course.

Papers will be graded according to:
* How well an interpretation (stance or argument) is articulated,
* The incisive and accurate use of course readings,
* The ability to push issues and ideas further,
* And the use of academic writing.

For this paper, choose a question about an aspect of race and education that is anchored in course themes. The paper can be a theoretical reflection, a literature review, etc.

In the literature review portion of the paper, the following questions should be answered:
* What is an issue/question explored in the paper?
* What are the core ideas/takeaways being pulling from sources? How do the sources relate to the overall topic/questions address in the paper? How are these sources helping to the paper’s research question(s)?

*** REQUESTED OUTLINE OF PAPER***

Introduction
Hopefully, what I have written works for you. The second paragraph is intended to serve as a guide for how the paper should be organized.

Literature Review
From the annotated bibliography contained in the prospectus, the entries for the Leonardo (2004) as well as the Bonds and Inwood (2016) articles should be worked into the paper’s literature review like how I did with Leonardo (2004) article in the “White Supremacy” section. The literature review should answer the following question and be organized as follows:
Why should minoritized, colonized, and displaced peoples experiences be centered in discourses of supremacy and colonialism?
[1] Scholarship that contributes to the discourses of white supremacy
[2] Scholarship that contributes to the discourses of settler colonialism
[3] Scholarship that shows how projects of supremacy and colonality are each important in understanding the other

Curricular & Co-Curricular Interventions in Higher Education
The other three entries in the annotated bibliography can be used when discussing the intra- and intergroup dialogues. This section of the paper should answer the following question and be organized as follows:
How can college students be engaged in curricular and co-curricular interventions that support higher education institutions efforts towards dismantling White supremacy and towards employing decoloniality?
[1] Developmental Programming
[2] Coursework
[3] Intra- and Intergroup Dialogues
[4] Living-Learning Communities
