As far as length is concerned, your paper should be about 2 to 2.5 pages. As to the topic, that is up to you. It should be historical of course, and analytical — that is, do NOT summarize the events that Sallust describes. When we looked at the papers on Hammurabi’s Code, there were two that were analytical, and you should take those as your model. One paper asked a general historical question on slavery, and then used the evidence from the code to discuss that topic; the other did the same approach with the economy. So you might try to think of some interesting questions regarding the Romans: for instance, virtus and manliness is always a good question; or you might think about what Sallust tells us the role of women was in the late Republic, and see what you can do with that. Of course, there are dozens of other questions, ranging from politics to society, from conflict to powerlessness, from the mos maiorum to innovations that you can work with. It is up to you.
