Read the articles in this module about the current issues with coronavirus and education. After critically thinking about that information, write about the causes and/or effects that relate to student learning and education in the United States with the global pandemic.
In this essay, you can discuss only causes or only effects or both. Some brainstorming ideas: discuss either the causes of student learning moving to an online platform or the effects that the current U.S. education system’s move to digital learning will have on students and on our learning culture.
For example, what do you see as the causes for lack of student interest as reasons that students don’t perform well in our schools and pair that idea with the move to online learning during the pandemic. Use your experiences and observations to frame your thesis. Also, what causes other students, like Malala, to strive for an education even when there are issues complicating completion of an education during the pandemic. Why are some American students less dedicated to attending and learning in a digital age?
You could look at effects that the current education issues might cause. For example, students who are apathetic or who struggle with schoolwork might not be able to perform in the online setting. What effects may come out of this move to the digital platform? Do you think it will effect only students graduating from high schools or will there be more effects for students in every step of education from K-12 to college? The current issues with the pandemic and education are effecting you as a college student and, probably, someone you know in K-12. Think about the effects that might be difficult for some students or the way that this change to digital learning might help students overall.
You can concentrate either on the positive causes or effects or the negative, but be able to give examples from your own observations and experiences (or the articles provided) to back the points in the essay. Also, look at one group of students to stay focused (kindergartners, elementary school students, high school students, or college/university students).
You can use the information from any of the articles in the module, along with your own observations and experiences.
Do check the textbook for instructions on how to write cause and effect that starts on page 372. This essay should be three (3) to four (4) pages and be written in MLA format.
The Cause/Effect essay will be due on Monday, March 22nd by midnight. Make sure that if you use any of the articles, you cite them with in-text citation and with a Works Cited page. Essay is worth 100 points.
