1. Please Discuss Jacksonian Democracy. Most of you, in this class, are probably experts on the life and times of Andrew Jackson. What events, in his early life, made Andrew Jackson the man he would become? He was a man defined by vengeance and the belief that the common man (common white man) should lead the country. What major events defined his presidency and what were his ultimate success and failures? What do you think of Jackson as a man and as a President? What were some of the good and terrible things that defined his presidency and why is an entire era of American history named after him; the Jacksonian Democratic era?
2. Please Discuss the South and the Slave Controversy. Discuss the life of a slave in the American South in the years leading up to the Civil War. What were their food, work, and daily life like? Why is slavery in such demand in the south and why did the South feel it needed slavery? Discuss slave society, religion, and culture. What types of resistance were used by the slaves (use example)? Discuss Salve Revolts.
