Overweight is a significant risk factor for the common illnesses associated with increased morbidity and mortality, for example, diabetes mellitus, acute coronary syndrome, hypertension, and cerebrovascular diseases. My initial opinion was that health education in adulthood prevents obesity and will ultimately reduce the incidence of such diseases or improve the quality of life and reduce mortality among those who have already developed the disease. Upon further research, I discovered that health education at the elementary school is the most reliable tool in preventing overweight and obesity (Haghani, Shahnazi & HassanZadeh, 140). The most important step is educating the public on incorporating a healthy diet in their daily living. Educating them on regular exercises and physical activities is also equally important. Available data on the subject helps avoid duplication of data and also identifies knowledge gaps. What needs to be sought is the most reliable mode of disseminating health information to the public.
