Discuss which factor caused the reformation in Germany.

Discuss which factor caused the reformation in Germany. Outline the viewpoints of the two historians Elizabeth Eisenstein (book about the printing press) and Martin Brady (in A Brief Introduction to the Hapsburg Empire), with regards to the factors that caused the reformation (use of printing press and emperor Charles’s neglect) The essay will present cases for both the viewpoints of these historians along with other factors.
The factors that should be discussed include:
Humanism leading to an understanding of church corruption, church practice of indulgences for example.
The role of the German Princes and Charles, growing sense of nationalism.
Luther himself, his personal public appeal but also his doctrinal ideas.
Within these paragraphs, or separate if you wish, it must cover both historians viewpoints, but ultimately come to the conclusion that Brady is correct in saying that Charles’s absence was the over-riding cause. It must demonstrate that their are other factors at play however, but that Luther himself could easily have been replaced by another reformer.
It should also include three sources to demonstrate these arguments. These could be from emperor Charles, or Luther for example. They could be a discussion of a pamphlett, speech, a personal account or letter, but it must have at least two different types of source within the overall three. The paper must mention the possible limitations of these sources to historians.
Ultimately, the paper should cover a time period ranging from the end of the 1400S to the mid to back end of the 1500S a little after Luther’s death.
A concise conclusion supporting Brady’s point of view in general will also be needed.
