Entrepreneurship, Creativity and Ethics

Withey and Schwartz report a study showing a positive relationship between ethics and entrepreneurship. Others suggest that a commitment to ethical conduct inhibits creativity and innovation as well as risk-taking, which are regarded as essential qualities of entrepreneurs and that rule-breaking is an element of innovation and creativity. When we examined the role of ethics in the professions we noted that in fulfilling the ethics of the legal profession an attorney may be required to do things that are considered unethical if done in other contexts. Is the same true for the entrepreneur? Is the nature of entrepreneurial endeavor such that the entrepreneur should be excused if he/she breaks ethical rules? Do the findings of Withey and Schwartz that entrepreneurs are more ethical than the average member of society align with your experience and/or beliefs? Offer evidence or a rationale for your opinion on this.
