The article your essay will be based on will be due on My.Marymount no later than Friday Mar 19th. The first draft will be due in class on Friday Apr. 9th. (you will trade papers with your peers, so they can read it over and give you feedback, so the rough draft must be done by the 10th. You will get points for your review of anothers paper.) The review is due on Friday Apr 16th and the final essay is due on Friday Apr 23th. The final report (with the review) will be turn in through My.Marymount dropbox. The link will be activated later.
You will write a short paper (about 3 pages), in which you shall summarize and analyze a real-life situation/event that is affecting the doping in recent history. You will select a substantial article from a major newspaper or magazine that covers doping events. Please include the people, substance, organizations and other pertinent information. Then include a review of the substance, what does it do (therapeutic and doping), what are the side effects, and ect.
Presentation Assignment: Prepare a presentation on the paper. You can use whatever media you want. PowerPoint, Prezi, Caulk or ???? I only expect a 10 minute presentation. These will be organized towards the end of the course. Maybe the last 2 weeks of the course. Presentations will start on April 1st and will run through the rest of the semester. A sign up page will be put onto my.marymount. Up to 4 people a day could do their presentation.
These two items together are 20% of your grade. So this must be done, if you want a passing or good grade in the course.

Journals discussion: There are primary, secondary, tertiary, quaternary articles.
Primary source, something where the person did the actually research (or science).
Secondary, where someone else reviews a primary source, may be an overview of multiple primary sources.
Tertiary, maybe a trade magazine, still based in research, but a bit removed.
Quaternary, Los Angeles times, not a magazine in the field of study, written for non “science” people.
For our papers, we may not get to Primary resources, but youtube and webpages don’t even make the list of scholarly writings. Try to find reference for your papers, at least 1, that would at least be considered “Quaternary”.
