Introduction to Philosophy
Spring 2021
The Cave is an allegory Plato wrote in an attempt to describe the intellectual and spiritual growth of a person. Your assignment is to explore The Cave by reflecting on its significance and then developing your own interpretation of the allegory.
Review Platos story first; then express your interpretation based on personal experience. Your paper should demonstrate comprehension of Platos theory, i.e., encompass all five stages of enlightenment, from the plight of the Strange Prisoner to arrival in the World of Being and the choice to Return.
Check-list:
1. My paper expresses, first, a comprehensive analysis of The Cave and, second, a personal interpretation of what Platos allegory means.
2. I develop an analysis by including not less than two (2) and not more than four (4) quotations selected from the corresponding text of Platos Republic.
3. I support my personal interpretation by involving at least one highly specific example from my personal experience.
4. My paper is composed in Times New Roman 12-point font, double-spaced (except for single-spaced quotations), and surrounded by one inch margins.
5. My paper is not less than six (6) and not more than eight (8) complete pages.
6. My paper is thoroughly proofread, without spelling errors or grammatical mistakes.
Recommendation: If you want to do well, spend time thinking about the paper and organizing your thoughts before beginning to write.
