Explain and identify what rhetorical appeals Moro is using.

Rhetoric is the study of how writers/speakers use language to influence their audiences. Thus, a rhetorical analysis is where one examines a piece of work and explains what rhetorical appeals are being employed to persuade, inform, or entertain the audience and for what end. For this essay, you will be examining Gabriela Moros article, Minority Student Clubs: Segregation or Integration? (Links to an external site.), and highlighting what rhetorical appeals (Ethos, Logos, and Pathos) she uses. This paper will be done through two portions. First, through a summary of the article, and secondly by examining what rhetorical techniques Moro is employing, explaining how that helps Moro to convey her argument.

Prompt
Write a 850-1000 word rhetorical analysis of Moros Minority Student Clubs: Segregation or Integration? (https://openlab.citytech.cuny.edu/millereng1101spr2019/files/2019/02/Minority-Student-Clubs-Segregation-or-Integration-2-copy.pdf
You will need to complete two different tasks:

(1) Summarize the article in 1-2 paragraphs

(2) Explain how Moro is putting her argument together.

Explain and identify what rhetorical appeals Moro is using. (Ask yourselves: why is Moro utilizing Ethos/Logos/Pathos here? What does the use of that appeal do for her argument and for her readers?)

Reminders
For this essay, the summary takes the place of the introductory paragraph (this will be reiterated in class)
Every essay will have:
One or two paragraphs summarizing Moros article (no more than two); this summary takes the place of your introductory paragraph.
a thesis statement that comes at the end of your summary (basic thesis statement: claim + 3 reasons)
three body paragraphs analyzing how Moro utilizes the appeals for her argument
a conclusion
Again, your thesis statement will be at the end of your summary. The claim for this paper is hows Moro putting her argument together, meaning that all ones needs to come up with are the reasons for the thesis:
Ex: Moro uses rhetorical appeals to set up her argument (claim), using emotional points to connect to her readers (pathos), using professional experiences to solidify her rationale (ethos), and using statistics to support her arguments (logos).
In your thesis, if you’re not using the names of the rhetorical appeals, ensure that you include them in parentheses (look at the above example)
The analysis portion of the paper (part 2) should be the majority of the paper.
Think of Ethos, Pathos, and Logos
Explain how the rhetorical strategies are being used (how are they meant to impact the reader and support her essay)
Use signal phrases to attribute ideas to the original author
Incorporate quotations properly
