Munchies is a small fast food restaurant (part of a major chain) which operates 7 days a week from 11 am until midnight. A few years ago they had a visit from their local County Council who required them to put a grease trap in place before releasing liquid waste to the mains sewer.
The grease trap (50 litre capacity) is topped up with approx 1 litre of DRAINEX every evening (just before closing) and stirred for 6 hours prior to release to the sewer. Last week a worker from overseas (English not his first language) was splashed in the eye with the solution and was taken to the Eye and Ear hospital where he was kept in overnight. He has not returned to work yet and nobody has heard from him. The HSA inspector has been in contact with the local manager and is looking for the chemical risk assessment and other relevant documents. The local manager has contacted head-quaters in Dublin for advice.
