Explain how women in the American criminal justice system are denied their fundamental rights. My research topic is how women in the American criminal justice system are denied their fundamental rights. Women are thrown into jail over minor drug charges and mistreated in prison. Many of the women in the jails are victims of abuse and in need of therapy and emotional support, but in the current system this is not provided to them. They are put into solitary confinement, stripped and searched, and put through many other harmful practices. Once the women leave prison they are subject to post-conviction penalties put in place by the government and private companies. This hinders their attempts at attempting to rebuild their lives that were derailed by going to jail. The only way that these women can get justice is by creating a system in which women are treated like people. Just because they made a mistake once in their life it doesnt mean that they should be humiliated for the rest of their life inside and outside of prison.
