In a 7-8 page letter to someone you really care about, argue the case for environmental action and activism.
Include each of the following elements in your argument (approximate page lengths suggested, not required, to give an idea of the extent to which each topic should be covered):
introductory paragraph (make sure your thesis is clear and in bold print) (.5 page)
give a clear sense of (list/explain) the problems were facing, both material and social (overpopulation, wars for resources, etc.), and how they connect (about 2 pages)
explain the role of CO2 in our problems, including an explanation of what the tipping point is, and about when we will reach it (about 1 to 1.5 pages; be sure to give a clear explanation, supported with scientific detail). Of course you should use Volks CO2 Rising, but also consider other course materials, such as Chapter 1 of McKibbens Eaarth from Week 1, among others.
explain ideologies people hold about our environment (2 pages)
ideologies of environmental domination and environmental concern
social construction of nature
any others?
implications of using these ideologies to guide ones actions (connect the ideal with the material)
describe solutions to our environmental crisis (2 pages)
material solutions (include some discussion of adaptation and mitigation), including some acknowledgment of timing (how fast do we have to act?)
ideological solutions
conclusion (.5 page)
I have the textbook on kindle, so I can not upload a copy. But I can provide extra payment so you can get a copy if needed, because the essay should be closely based on the textbook. (plus each chapter counts as one of the ten required course readings, so the entire essay can be based on the textbook)
