Meets course-level objective AIM 1 & AIM 2 and weekly objective 1
First, use this video to understand how to use the TCEQ website: https://youtu.be/AmqEEUIhRzI
This video will show you how to search the air monitor called Beaumont Mary.
Then use the reading from the prior week (week 2) to read more about H2S.
In this reading you will see that ” People usually can smell hydrogen sulfide at low concentrations in air ranging from 0.0005 to 0.3 parts per million ” (0.3ppm)—this is your threshold.
Next, to answer the below questions visit the TCEQ website to identify when H2S was at or above 0.3ppm in Beaumont, Texas. You might have to covert ppm to ppb. Google has converters.
https://www.rapidtables.com/convert/number/ppm-to-ppb.html
1. Step 1: Explain in detail how industry can negatively impact health. Use the content from this week to back up your explanation (2-3 sentences)
You can also use the following links:
https://www.osha.gov/SLTC/hydrogensulfide/hazards.html
https://www.who.int/ipcs/publications/cicad/en/cicad53.pdf
2. Step 2: tell what is the amount of H2S that is considered harmful to children and elderly. Use the following publication to help you with your answer.
https://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/phs/phs.asp?id=387&tid=67
Step 2a: now your goal is to research how often H2S can be smelled in Beaumont. You do this by researching the TCEQ air monitors. Using the TCEQ website list a date and time that H2S could be smelled in Beaumont (meaning that it was at or above the threshold (see above to identify threshold level). You do this by reading the Beaumont Mary Monitor. For more information on how to read the air monitor watch the video https://youtu.be/AmqEEUIhRzI
3. Step 3: Explain what your findings from reading the Beaumont Mary air monitor could possibly mean to environmental health of children and elderly living in the area. Hint- use the power point presentation from week 4.

How will student be graded?
1. Did the student use the correct amount of sentences to answer the question in detail CLEARLY linking to content from this week? (10 points).

2. Did the student answer ALL 3 questions (5 points each, total 15 points total)
week four power point under module 2
