Final essays must be double-spaced, with one-inch margins, a title, and page numbers, and should include a works cited page. For the final essay you are required to pose a clearly articulated thesis, which you support with cogent arguments in the body of the paper. (A thesis statement is like an opinion; i.e., it is a claim the rightness or truth of which you want to persuade your reader. An argument is the logical and systematic presentation of reasons to support your thesis. Your essay is to be an argumentative paper, not a research paper.)
You may judiciously use block quotes in your final essay. The use of sources in the assignment is to be documented according APA style.
You are encouraged to use any of the assigned readings that might help you make your case. Your grade will be based on your demonstrated understanding of all of the course readings, themes, and lectures, as well as on the relevance, accuracy, and quality of your writing. This is your opportunity to work with and develop your own ideas. But you should do so in a way that shows your grasp of the different texts we have examined throughout the semester.
Here are specific instructions:
I want you to rewrite and elaborate the paper you’ve already written. For this paper, I am asking for your opinion; more exactly, I’m asking you to state whether or not you agree with the author (Frye) and to develop an argument to support your position. The final essay must clearly build on and go beyond what you initially wrote. If you agree with the author, explain why; you must develop your paper with reference to the course materials you have read throughout the semester. (You need a works cited page, in part, because you will be drawing on more texts than you did for the initial paper.)
It is very important that you support your position by engaging the readings and videos assigned throughout the course. Moreover, when you turn in your final essay, I want you to turn in the original (shorter) paper that you wrote earlier in the semester.
Original Paper and reading will be provided.
‘Pay attention to the paragraph p.114-115 in Frye’s article
In “On Being White,” Frye writes:
Whiteness is…a social or political construct of some sort…Whites exercise a power of
defining who is white and who is not, and are jealous of that power…To be white is to
be a member of an in-group, a kin group, which is self-defining…Members can bend the
rules anytime, if that is necessary to assert the members’ sole and exclusive authority to
decide who is a member; in fact, bending the rules is an ideal expression of that
authority (pp. 114-115).
PLEASE follow this outline:
Outline
