Your essay should also:
Include an introductory paragraph that hooks the readers attention, announces the title and author/artist of the work, and contains a clear thesis statement that voices your opinion.
Have body paragraphs that begin with clear topic sentences, discuss one main point, and give adequate proof through examples and descriptions.
End with a concluding paragraph that emphasizes the works degree of worth.
Contain effective writing that has no distracting mechanical or grammatical problems, punctuation errors, or misspelled words
This essay should use objective (3rd person) point of view. That means no first person or second person pronouns.
Conform to the acceptable standards for writing about the arts, including use of present-tense verbs and MLA guidelines for documentation.

Thesis must be able to be argued
Explain why your thesis is important or puzzling
Find support for your thesis in the poem
Use quotes/excerpts from the poem & outside sources to clarify and support your ideas.
Accurately copy quotations. If three lines or less, incorporate them into your paragraphs and set them off by quotation marks. If a quote is more than three lines, the lines should be indented 10 spaces for both poetry and prose, and no quotation marks are used. Be sure to correctly cite the quoted material by placing the page or line numbers in parenthesis after the quote.
Try not to use quote after quote. Quote the best and paraphrase the rest.
