Your paper will include the following aspects
*Brief biographical background of the explorer
*Motives behind the voyage/venture
*An overview of the voyage/venture
*The impact the voyage/venture had on the indigenous people encountered

Length – The minimum length of the paper is 2000 words. (This minimum does not include your bibliography.) You can find out how many words your paper is going the top of your word processing document and pull down the Tools menu and find Word Count. If you have never written a research paper your might want to locate “The Writers Reference” by Diana Hacker – 9th Edition. It is available in PDF format online. This resource will give provide you with everything you ever wanted to know about writing a paper and more. In fact, this source may overwhelm you. I just want you to have access to a source like this in case you have specific questions on how to write a paper.
Sources – You must use at least 5 sources in your paper. Sources can be text or videos (documentaries). You may use as many as you want. You may use your textbook as a source. Sources should be listed in your bibliography. (Take a screen shot of the first page of any web site you use in your bibliography and paste the images at the end of the list of sources to validate your citation.) If you use an information from a source it must be cited. Students are to use the “Chicago Manner of Style” format for their papers. This format is now used by many of the four year colleges students tranfer to and is the format used by the History department at West Hills.
