This assignment is your final assignment for the course and is an opportunity for you to create, and get feedback on, a foundational qualitative research proposal that meets CUNYs IRB protocols and can be used in your capstone courses. Proposals should describe your research project in detail. Your proposal should be 10 pages in length and must include the following elements
1. Research Question and Research Objectives (100/400 points). Your proposal should describe the process of constructing or identifying your research question and should also explain why this research question is important to the field of disability studies.

Your proposal should describe the research methodology youve chosen, clarify your research goals, and explain how the methodology youve selected correlates to the goals of your research project. Discussions of how you chose the methodology and a consideration of how this methodology both enables, and limits, the scope of your research. 2. A description of the challenges you might encounter during the course of your research and how you plan to address these challenges. 3. A discussion of the biases, perspectives, experiences, and knowledge you bring to the project. 4. A description of how you plan to complete your project in an ethical manner; includingwhere applicablehow you will obtain consent forms and protect the confidentiality of research participants. Your proposal should also detail how your research addresses the needs and concerns of the disability community. 5. Your proposal should explain how you will analyze your data and describe the specific theories and ideas that will frame your analysis.

People with disabilities experience prejudice, ableism, and discrimination. These biases create a barrier to integrating people with disabilities into society, yet most people believe that people with disabilities should be integrated into the community (Park and Kim, 2018, 1030). The Liberia community is a challenging environment for people with disabilities, particularly people with autistic disorder spectrum (ASD) due to ignorance and cultural beliefs. Liberia communities associate ASD with witchcraft, curses, and demonic activities. For this reason, ableism and discrimination against people with this disorder become prevalent. Despite this, opportunities can be created for people with ASD to challenge ableism and disability discrimination. One way of challenging ableism and disability discrimination is by creating disability awareness programs. Disability awareness is described as “a positive attitude and increased empathy towards people with disability,” and it aims to provide an understanding of the difficulties people with disability experience (Columna et al., 2009, 19). Therefore, disability awareness programs can drive out ableism and disability discrimination against people with ASD. The second method is establishing special needs schools for children with ASD, which will equip the students with ASD with knowledge and skills to challenge ableism. Third-way opportunities can be created through inclusive learning/education. Inclusive education is a type of schooling whereby students with disabilities can learn with non-disabled students (Buli-Holmberg and Jeyaprathaban, 2016, 120; Zakaria and Tahar, 2017, 25). This form of learning will provide exposure to non-disabled students, making them more accepting and understanding of diversity. Gasser, Malti, and Buholzer (2013) showed that students in inclusive classrooms demonstrated more moral judgments as well as emotions concerning children with disabilities exclusion. Thus, inclusive education eliminates discrimination and supports tolerance for individual differences. We can help people with ASD to challenge the discriminatory attitudes towards them by joining disability awareness programs and campaigns, educating the community, and accepting them as part of our community.
