Submit your concert review through this assignment. Included in the Signature Assignment Page are several links of pre-approved concerts, however you may with to research on your own. If you decide to find your own concerts, please show me the concert first. Include a web link to the concert(s) you viewed for this assignment as part of your citation page. If you do not include this information, you will automatically fail this assignment. I prefer Chicago Style formatting, but I will accept MLA.
Concert Review Guidelines:
Write a 2 – 3 page concert review (and include a cover page) over a concert(s) or performance(s) totaling 2 hours in length. You may use the YouTube links I have provided, or research and find your own performances. If you wish to find your own concerts, please check with me before you do the assignment.
Include a cover page with:
Your Name, MUSI, Course Name, CRN, Professor Name, Date
*** Turn in a Copy of the Program of the Concert ***
Discuss the experience of the concert from your point of view. Use music terminology that you know and that you have learned in class – i.e., texture, instrumentation, sound, harmony, melody, rhythm & meter, growth, structure/form, etc. The main body of the concert review should include brief discussions of each piece on the concert you attend. In most cases, a single paragraph for each piece should be sufficient, although, with longer, multi-movement works you may wish to divide each movement into separate, short paragraphs.
Things to include in your review:
What was the venue (was it a dark hall, could you see the audience, how did everything sound, anything stick out)?
What is the title of the work(s) and movements (if applicable)?
Who are the composers (names, dates, nationality)?
Who were the featured performers (soloist, conductor, if chamber music [trio, quartet, etc.])?
Choose at least two (2) from below:
How did the work impact society, culture, politics, or the environment upon its premier/release?
What political, social, cultural, or environmental factors influenced the work?
What influence on society, culture, politics, or environment does the work have on society today?
Did anything in the concert change your opinion/attitude on how you view the style of music and/or your own social, cultural, political, or environmental awareness?
