Part 1
For your summary responses, you should write a 1-3 paragraph summary that (2) introduces the article and writer, (2) explains the main point of the piece, (3) discusses the tone and audience of the piece in your own words, and (4) provides your response and analysis of the article (i.e. what do you think about what the writer is saying?)
A few notes:
– Your summary response should follow general MLA guidelines. The more we learn about MLA this quarter, the more closely I will be grading the MLA formatting of your summary.
– Your summary response must include all four components above. If you submit a summary that does not, I will grade it as a “0” but you will be permitted to resubmit the summary with the needed additions by the end of the quarter for an updated grade.
– I consider these assignments a “Summary+.” Unlike a traditional summary, remember that I am truly interested in seeing your response about the original article. Don’t forget that part!
Part 2
Please write a paragraph on EACH of the following questions (3 paragraphs in total):
1. How does Carr integrate his evidence? What kinds of sources/evidence does he include?
2. Is his essay convincing? WHY, specifically?
3. Two things are necessary for a source to be considered “good” for a research paper. The source must be both credible and relevant.
How can you tell whether or not a source is credible?
What makes a source relevant?
Were Carr’s sources credible and relevant?
