Discussion Question “pre-school”ages 3-4
How have you prepared your students for the big test in the past? Were your strategies effective in achieving the proficiency levels expected? Based on this weeks readings, how would you change your preparation strategy to improve your students performance?
We now move on to cognitive theories of learning. Cognitive psychology is the study of reasoning, thinking, language use, judgment, and decision-making. Research in this area includes studies of attention, memory, and visual and auditory information processing.
As opposed to the behavioral theories, which posit that the learners and their behaviors are a result of external/environmental stimuli, the cognitive theorists espouse that learning is based on a restructuring of perceptions and thoughts occurring within the organism. This restructuring allows the learner to perceive new relationships, solve new problems, and gain an understanding of a subject area. Cognitive-learning theorists stress the reorganization of ones perceptions in order to achieve understanding. Length: At least 200-250 words APA FORMAT
There is a large focus on learning about memory in this chapter. Although there is a lot of material to digest, I encourage you to try to stay focused on: 1) ways you might be able to use the information to aid your students in retaining and retrieving the content you are teaching them, and 2) noting processes and strategies involved in becoming knowledgeable.
