A passage might be selected because it illustrates the authors central argument, seems confusing or raises questions, connects to ideas or information presented in lectures or other readings, or inspires a creative thought in the reader.

Secondly, write an original paragraph–also about 3-5 sentences–explaining why he or she chose a particular text. It should be both reflective and academic. The paragraph will express the writers own connection to the passage. It is personal. However, it should focus on the intellectual content of the passage and the readers reaction to it as a student of political science. It is not emotional.
