Social problems and policies to address them dont appear from out of anywhere; there is always some social history of the social problem and policies intended to address it, and understanding this historical context is important. In this section, provide an overview of significant contemporary (no earlier than 1900) policies intended to address your related social problem. It is best to discuss the history in chronological order, from oldest first to most recent last.
1) Identify at least two significant Federal policies (in addition to the one you have chosen) that have been enacted to address the related social problem. (The policy I had chosen is: Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act of 2016) If there are no Federal policies in this area, identify significant state policies.
a. One policy should pre-date (come before) the policy you signed up for, one should follow it (come after). If you signed up for an old policy (prior to the 1960s) they can both be after it in time; if you signed up for a new policy (2010 or after) they can both come before it in time.
2) For both of these additional policies, describe:
a. What the policy did to address the social problem (i.e., provide funding, create programs, establish guidelines)?
b. Why the policy was enacted when it was (i.e., was the social problem getting worse? Were important people being affected by it? Something else?)
Your reply to question 3 must take into account all three policies identified in your policy history the one you signed up for plus the two identified above.
3) Describe how societal understanding of the related social problem is different today than it was in the years since the earliest (i.e, the oldest) of these three policies was enacted.
a. Is the problem believed to have gotten worse, better, or no change?
b. How have the social conditions or populations (folk devils) blamed for causing the social problem changed over this time period?
i. If the causes havent changed describe why they remain the same.
