Using the material from this and previous lessons, outside research (optional), and previous educational and professional background, prepare and submit an analysis of the case study located in chapter 11 of the textbook Homeland Security, Policy and Politics, Immigration Policy and the American-Mexican Border: Humanitarian Crisis or U.S. Invasion?
In your analysis the research questions is Should the U.S. welcome Latin American refugees fleeing violence and persecution in their home countries? Actor A are those who think the U.S. should welcome the refugees. Actor B are those who are not welcoming and see those trying to enter the U.S. as illegal immigrants.
Use the Bardach & Patashnik Eightfold Path, elements of critical thought, and intellectual standards to conduct and present your analysis. Use logical argumentation and a bottom-line-up-front (BLUF) format for developing your analysis. Your findings (BLUF) should include an answer to the research question and sub-recommendations (if appropriate). Follow the Eightfold Path steps.It is recognized that you will not have time to do an in-depth analysis using the Eightfold Path. The purpose of this assignment is for you to gain additional experience using the Eightfold Path process. This assignment is expected to result in no more than 2-3 pages of a double-spaced text presenting your findings (BLUF) and supporting the findings with a summary logical argument. You must include appendixes with the 4 Ways of Seeing and Key Assumption Check analyses. The case study provides the main evidence you will need for this analysis. Outside research may be required. For outside research, include References with full citations in APA format in a Reference section to your paper.
Use APA format to structure your paper. An APA formatted Title Page is required. No Abstract is required for this assignment.
The assignment will be evaluated using the HLS 395 Analysis and Writing Rubric in Course Documents. This case study analysis is worth 20 points.
