In a sentence or two state the purpose of the article/essay.
In a separate paragraph, give a brief analysis of what you feel the author is up to in the introduction. How does she/he make use of the first moments of the readers attention?
In a separate paragraph, give a brief analysis of the types of support the author gives.
In a separate paragraph, give a brief analysis of how the author closes the piece. What thoughts does the author leave the reader with?
Finally, in a separate paragraph, state anything that you feel was done well or which could be improved.
These paragraphs do not need to be terribly long. Just show that you are thinking about writing. In addition, whenever you read material, try to consciously think about what the author is up to. Why does she say what she says in the way she says it? This will hopefully help you with your own essays.
