Intro to Trauma Studies

In this module you will begin generating ideas for your final version of the Session Long Project. Your ultimate goal for the FINAL version is choosing and analyzing a disaster, act of war or terrorism, or other mass casualty event (natural to manmade). Your analysis will involve addressing psychological and social traumas and methods of readjustment. This will be your prevention-oriented education program. The object is to build knowledge and skills in others who might be involved in management, relief or recovery.

In this installment, name up to three events (e.g., flooding, terrorist strike, biological attack) about which you would like to educate yourself and others. When you consider types of events, chose the ones that have relevancy in your personal life, your community, and your state. Give a brief description of each event.

Please remember that this is a preliminary “brainstorm” for you. Think about more than one category of disaster with the goal of narrowing your focus in SLPs 2, 3, 4, and 5 to one type, which would be of greatest interest to you.

You will use the remaining four modules, including this one, to build the presentation piece-by- piece. In SLP 5, you will synthesize materials from SLPs 2 through 5 into a final project of 12 to 15 pages.
