After completing this weeks reading in The Craft of Research, you will take the first step toward elucidating your own paper topic by using some of the strategies described. Look specifically at the section titled Look for Problems as You Read, on pp. 61-62.
One of the best ways to begin to discern a paper topic is to simply record your reactions to what you are reading. Consider the following questions while reading an article:
With what point do you disagree and why?
Is there an important point the author has failed to considerone that might overturn part or all of the authors argument?
Is there an important point the author has failed to considerone that might lend even more credibility to the authors argument or allow the authors argument to be applied to a new/different/broader situation?
Could the authors research support other arguments that the author has failed to consider?
Is there a flaw in the research performed by the author? A flaw in the methodology, procedure, or timeline perhaps?
Should certain changes be made to improve research on this topic?
Is the author ignoring a research opportunity that could yield important insights into this topic?
Instructions for Initial Post
Using as a guide one or more of the above questions, write a response to one of the three articles listed above. Important: You are not responding to the article as whole. You are not writing a summary of the article or reflecting generally on your feelings toward the article. Instead, you are responding to a specific part of the article (e.g., a single claim within the article, a particular research method, etc.). The narrower you can get, the better.
Indicate which article you are responding to in the first sentence of your post. Provide citations when needed. You are not required to provide a reference list.
You may cite other articles you have read about media multitasking, but this is not required.
Your assignment should be 300-400 words. Please note the word count at the end of your paper
