Microbes, like all life, are subject to the pressure of natural selection. Natural selection, however, selects for or against particular attributes, including size of the microbial genome. Find a microbe that undergone microbial genome expansion OR genome reduction. Describe the selective forces that caused the change. What was the outcome of that change? Did it help or harm the microbe? Discuss any other relevant information that will help your peers understand the change that occurred.
You should cite your research (APA format). Your response should be approximately 200-250 words. You should also respond, substantially, to at least one classmate’s post. This response should be approximately 100-150 words, and you should cite any information you use to add to their contribution (APA format). See syllabus for “substantial” criteria. Post your response directly into the Discussion Board “box” (do not upload documents). You must use proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Your score may be lowered if you do not use proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation, or if you do not follow the criteria for post length and citation.
