Directions: Construct a literature review with at least two sources. Use in-text citations, 3rd person point of view, and the MLA 8th Edition format.
Find two peer-reviewed articles about your career choice. You may use the articles you discussed in past assignments.
The following will guide you on how to construct your paper.
A literature review should be structured like any other essay: it should have an introduction, a middle or main body, and a conclusion. Label each section with a heading that follows the MLA 8th Edition format.
Introduction
The introduction should:
Define your topic and provide an appropriate context for reviewing the literature.
Establish your reasons for the research.
Explain the organization i.e. sequence of the review.
State the scope of the review i.e. what is included and what isnt included. For example, if you were reviewing the literature on obesity in children you might say something like: There are a large number of studies of obesity trends in the general population. However, since the focus of this research is on obesity in children, these will not be reviewed in detail and will only be referred to as appropriate.
Research Questions
List your research questions (use Bloom’s Taxonomy style question). Only use analytical, evaluative, or synthesis.
Main body
The middle or main body should:
Organize the literature according to common themes. You should have 3 body paragraphs with a different theme each.
Provide insight into the relationship between your chosen topic and the wider subject area e.g. between nurses in the ER and nurses in general.
Conclusion
The conclusion should:
Summarize the important aspects of the existing body of literature.
Evaluate the current state of the literature reviewed. (Explain what you learned and liked about your research.)
Identify significant flaws or gaps in existing knowledge. (What information was missing from the articles your read?)
Outline areas for future study (What questions do you still have after writing this paper?)
I attached my outline below.
