In this undergraduate course, students will examine the life and work of innovators who influenced culture, technology and society. In this online collaborative learning course, students will analyze biographies, autobiographies, memoirs and case studies, and explore how environment, experiences and society shaped the lives of innovators (such as Phil Knight, Steve Jobs, Nikola Tesla, Indra Nooyi, and Oprah Winfrey). Additionally, students will explore ethical theory in relation to society, innovation and innovators. Through readings, discussions, writing assignments, presentations, and written analysis of literary assignments, students will respond critically and explore the relationship between innovators and the environment they navigate, and the human condition and the will to find meaning.
Course Objectives
This course will prepare students to:
1. Discuss the connections between the human condition and innovation.
2. Critically read literature and write evidence-based literary analysis, using biographies, autobiographies and memoirs as a primary source and relying on textual support.
3. Demonstrate effective oral communication skills, including being able to give oral presentations that increase knowledge, foster understanding, or encourage change.
