Write a short essay about a character or person unlike yourself. In this essay, you should attempt to understand the character or person’s positive motivation. Positive motivations can be difficult to understand when it comes to people unlike yourself. No matter how good or evil a character’s actions may appear to others, the actor must think that what he/she’s doing is the best option, the most positive action he/she can take, given the situation.
In your essay, attempt to find the positive motivation for someone doing something we view as a negative. We know that, from time to time, actors are asked to realistically portray historical figures like Hitler and/or the terrorists who killed close to 3000 people on 9/11. Even though actors certainly find the results of these people’s actions repugnant, their profession demands that they must try to find positive motivations.
Acceptable Length and Grading Criteria: Your response to the writing assignments must be thorough as you are graded on content you must include specifics and present your ideas with supporting evidence. As for length, you should at least expect to write a few paragraphs if not a page or two.
