ONLY THE BACKGROUND

Topic: The mission of this project is to make available to students enrolled in the USDA school breakfast and lunch program the nutritional fact labels of items served which will help the high school students learn more about nutrients and utilize these learnings in out of school settings.

MORE ABOUT THE TOPIC: To add a nutritional fact label with each public school menu that provides free breakfast and lunch for students. Public schools with a free breakfast and lunch program include students from poverty families and have little knowledge of nutrient-dense foods. A Nutritional fact label provided with each meal of the day will teach high school students how to read nutritional fact labels, allow them to check if foods provided are tolerant, intolerant, or allergic, and be aware of their daily from carbohydrates, added sugar, or sodium intake of the day.

INSTRUCTIONS:
The activity for this week is designed to help students to continue to develop their final projects by writing the background, purpose of the project, and the goals/objectives of the project. Consider what is already known about the project topic, what are the goals/objectives of the project, and why is this project needed? This, along with strategic planning and development of mission and vision statements, are part of the planning process. Think about some of the information you used to write your blogs.

The background, purpose of the project, and project goals/objectives must be submitted as a word document! It should be at least 1-2 pages in length (please note for your final paper this section should be 3-4 pages in length). Some considerations as you write this section of your paper: The background is very important because it shows potential directors/investors you understand the project and have a balanced and adequate knowledge of it. Use this opportunity to reveal that you are aware of why the project is needed, the findings, and the gaps, or discrepancies in the department/organization that warrant the implementation of the project. State the general purpose and major goals/objectives of your project. What do you want to accomplish? Make sure the goals/objectives are targeted and measurable; these should be written using the SMART framework (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Based). The goals/objectives you select here are the goals/objectives you will need to measure as part of the monitoring function so make sure they align in your final paper. Please don’t forget to include your references and anytime statistics or information from articles or online databases are summarized, in-text citations are needed. Please refer to the project guidelines for additional details. There are examples of the final project in course resources for your review, this includes the Background Section of the final paper.
